  This paper discusses the present situation and characteristics of English learning difficulties of high school students under the background of the new curriculum reform. The author also analyses the reasons of the difficulties and then provides solution to solve these difficulties so as to strives for a breakthrough to improve English learning performance.
  I. The performance of Senior High School students’ English Learning difficulties
  In learning English, we find that the difficulties in learning English are mainly focused on the following points: The first is the memory of words which are the basis of learning a foreign language.Without the accumulation of words, there is no way to make a huge leap forward, even in reading and listening. High school students often find vocabulary learning very difficult when learning English. Without a solid vocabulary basis, they can not achieve high score. The vocabulary of high school English texts is much larger than that of junior middle school texts. Some students hold that the time spent in the end of the term is better then the process of learning. Other students who are weak in reciting vocabulary lack of confidence.
  The second is that most students have good grades in English but lacks of any interest. What they learned is only to cope with the examination. Interest is not only the most favorable cause of motivation within learning, but also an important link in the chain of education. To understand how to cultivate students’ interest in learning English, we must first clarify the premise of the formation of high school students’ interest in learning English. High school students are in the learning habits of the formation stage, growing up in a changeable period, often showing a love of new things. They are competitive and against the mechanical memorization.
  The third is that students pay too much attention to grammar but not listening and speaking. In English learning, four basic skills include “listening”, “speaking”, “reading” and “writing”. Among them, “listening” occupies the most important order. Therefore, in order to learn a foreign language well, we should not only train the ability of reading and writing, but also pay more attention to the cultivation of listening and speaking ability.
  II. The Analysis of the causes of High School students’ English learning difficulties
  I will analyze some factors that cause the English learning difficulties of senior high school students. The first is because of psychological factor. Facing the great pressure of the college entrance examination, high school students have some characteristics of instability in the aspect of strength and psychology.At the same time,, learning is the process of self-construction. English learning is no exception. Psychological factors are of paramount importance for senior school students. The second is from the society. Nowadays,grade is the only tool to screen talents.The third is the teaching method. The teacher will spend most of his teaching time on grammar and exercises for his students’ achievements.
